SEKUNJALO ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT(SED)

• INTRODUCTION
• Established to enable those who have been
  previously disadvantaged to enter the mainstream
  economy
• Through its activities, in the main, SED aims to
  assist in the development of Small and Medium
  Enterprises (SMEs), thus contributing to the
  transformation of the South African economy

• The core objectives of SED shall always be
• Business Skills Development for the SMEs
• Assisting these SMEs to be profitable
• Ensuring that they yield acceptable returns
• That they also realise job creation potential

STRUCTURE OF THE SED

• SED is divided into three areas namely-
• Internal Transformation
• Acquire or Buy into Small and Medium Business
  (SEMs) incubate and grow them
• Creation of a Broad-Based Black Economic
  Empowerment Company

INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION

• The Executive Director of SED is the Chairman of
  the SIL Board Sub-Committee on Transformation.
• This ensures synergy between the Group Strategic
  direction and implementation, including
  monitoring of Transformation by all the
  Subsidiaries
• Both at Co-operate and Subsidiaries levels, the
  Group is to adhere to all the BBBEE Codes of Good
  Practice for compliance and Business development
  purposes.

• SED provides a Group-wide assistance and support
  to all the subsidiaries in ensuring that they
  also include Enterprise Development initiatives
  in their areas of business.
• In assisting the SEMs Sekunjalo through SED
  continues to be a Corporate Member of THE
  BUSINESS PLACE in Cape Town (EKAPA).
• The current Executive Director of SED is in the
  process of taking over from Dr Surve as Chairman
  of this National Network of Services for the
  CBOs.
• SED shall continue to contribute towards the
  creation of employment for SMMEs entrepreneurs
  through the Business Place.

CREATION OF A BROAD-BASED BLACK ECONOMIC
EMPOWERMENT ENTITY

• To further its commitment in empowering the
  historically-disadvantaged individuals, small BEE
  entities and Communities, SED is finalising the
  creation of a unique BBBEE entity.
• The said entity is referred to as MODJADJI which
  will see large communities of the Western Cape
  initially benefiting both as individuals and as
  BEE entities through direct investment and
  communities through a Developmental Trust called
  UMKHANKASO which is a beneficiary of Modjadji.
