RWY THROUGHPUT
OUTPUTS RWY THROUGHPUT
- 256 flights in both simulations (129 ARR 127
DEP) - Small differences are found in the number
of Movements per Hour due to flights scheduled at
the end/beginning of the hour interval, that
slightly move from SIMMOD to CAMACA (due to
stochastic model and conflicts resolution)

CAMACA OUTPUT
CAPACITY IN CAMACA
Using the original traffic sample and the
parameters explained, the Theoretical Capacity
given by CAMACA (depending on the traffic mix
A/D)
This Theoretical Capacity is calculated by a
mathematical model taking into account the
separations and the traffic mix (Aircraft Types)

CAMACA-SIMMOD COMPARISON
CAPACITY IN SIMMOD AND CAMACA
The main issue when comparing capacity results
given with SIMMOD and CAMACA, is that SIMMOD
(unlike CAMACA) does not give a Capacity number,
but Delay for every flight that can be extracted
from the outputs.
In order to give a capacity figure, modelers
should know a maximum acceptable level of delay,
to find out the number of operations the airport
could handle without exceeding that level of
delay.
10
SIMMOD OUTPUT
DELAY CALCULATION IN SIMMOD
DELAY DUE ONLY TO RWY OPERATIONS. The delay for
every flight is extracted from the SIMMOD output
SIMU14, assigned to each flight, and this delay
is assigned to the hour interval in which that
flight enters the simulation, extracted from
SIMU26 Fields in SIMU14 representing the
delay For DEPARTURES Field 27 Departure Queue
Delay in seconds. For ARRIVALS Field 28
Airborne Hold Delay in seconds. (or Field 30
Airborne Travel Delay that it is the same in
this scenario)
11
SIMMOD OUTPUT
DELAY CALCULATION IN SIMMOD
  • DELAY vs NUMBER OF OPERATIONS
  • This airport is not currently saturated (traffic
    sample under capacity)
  • Necessary to clone the traffic to reach possible
    capacity.
  • ORIGINAL TRAFFIC SAMPLE IS CLONED IN SIMMOD with
    these percentages 0, 5, 10, 25 and 40
  • Each simulation ? 10 iterations ? 2410 pairs
Delay/Number of Operations (one per hour and
    iteration)
  • 5 simulations (5 clones) ? total of 1051 pairs
    in the chart.

CAPACITY/DELAY COMPARISON
CAMACA
CAPACITY
DELAY
SIMMOD
Taking the previous SIMMOD Delay chart, and the
CAMACA capacity results, we would obtain around
3.75 minutes of delay per aircraft and an overall
delay of 105 minutes per hour for the airport.

CAMACA-SIMMOD COMPARISON
RAISING QUESTIONS
  • What is acceptable delay?
  • What is the maximum acceptable delay that would
    indicate capacity?
  • Is it realistic to give a Theoretical Capacity
not taking into account the delay?
  • Is it standard to asses the capacity in
    different airports assuming different Maximum
    Levels of Delay?
