Dental Caries
  • Symptoms sensitive to hot/cold/sweets
  • Signs
  • A. chalky white spot on enamel
  • B. dark stained cavity
  • C. roughness on tooth
  • D. cavity filled with food

Treatment
  • Remove Debris
  • Flush with warm H2o
  • Isolate with cotton
  • Dry
  • Mix and Fill with Temp Cavity material
  • RTC next day

Acute Pulpitis
  • Symptoms
  • - A. spontaneous, continuous pain
  • - B. piercing pulsating pain
  • - C. increased while lying down

  • Large carious lesion
  • Blood oozing from pulp exposure
  • Fractured Tooth
  • Missing restoration

Treatment of Pulpitis
  • Remove Debris
  • Isolate with cotton
  • Dry
  • Pack with Eugenol
  • Fill with Temp
  • RTC next day
  • ESSENTIALLY SAME AS TREATING A CAVITY.except
    you use Eugenol for PULPITIS

Periapical Abscess (think dead tooth)
  • Symptoms
  • A. throbbing constantly
  • B. pain to chewing
  • C. hurts while lying down
  • D. bad taste in mouth
  • E. gumboil
  • F. Tooth feels longer
  • G. Malaise or tender lymph nodes or both
  • NOTE THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME FOR PERIODONTAL
    ABSCESS!!!!!!!

Tooth Composition
  • Enamel - 96 inorganic 3 organic 1 water
  • Dentin - 70 inorganic 30 organic
  • Cememtum 55 inorganic 45 organic
  • TIP --- Just remember the biggest percentage is
    always inorganic
  • And enamel is the hardest substance in the body

    on test)
