9What facilities should an ECS have?
- Self contained one two bedroom flats, with full
kitchen/ bathrooms, usually to mobility
standards and ideally wheelchair standards - Emergency alarm system/Telecare
- Staff facilities, offices, sleepover
accommodation etc - Barrier free spaces which are accessible, aid
mobility and are fully equipped with lifts to all
floors - A range of service areas for hairdressing,
laundry, chiropody etc - Assisted bathing suites

10What facilities should an ECS have, cont?
- Communal areas including day rooms, catering and
dining facilities offering café services - Guest room facilities
- Good links to the local area
- Staff on site, responsible for the building,
management and coordination of care support
services
- They may also include
- Respite or continuing care suites
- Reception/helpdesk services
- GP beds
- GP surgery/treatment room
- Buggy store with charging facilities
- Day care service
- Luncheon club service
- Outreach service

- An ethos of independence/rehabilitation
- Tenancy or equity stakes gives security of tenure
- Relatives and friends continue to contribute to
