6
Performance
7
Performance is maintained by
  • Balanced body chemistry

8
Balanced body chemistry requires
  • 1. Glandular Balance

9
Glandular Balance requires
  • Central Nervous System Integrity

10
Central nervous system integrity is maintained by
the bony housing
11
Structural stability
  • A bony housing which does not impinge on central
    nervous system

12
Central Nervous System
  • Which delivers messages to our muscles and organs

13
Glandular Balance
  • So the organ can provide balanced body chemistry

14
Enabling us to maintain optimum performance
15
What is Snoring?
  • Snoring is the result of increased upper airway
resistance that is caused by the narrowing of the
airway passage between the free edge of the soft
palate and the back of the tongue.

16
Snoring
  • The restriction is caused by relaxing of the
muscles and the soft tissues in the throat and
    the mouth during sleep.
  • The free edge of the soft palate and uvula will
vibrate as air passes over them, creating the
    sound.
  • All of these signals are read by nervous system
and there will be a whole body response.

17
Snoring signs symptoms
  • Interrupted sleep pattern
  • Diminished concentration
  • Reduced energy
  • Dry mouth
  • Memory loss
  • Hypertension and irritability
  • Headaches and sinus problems
  • Bad morning breath
  • Excessive day time sleepiness

18
Snoring as an early warning sign
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (O.S.A.) When the tongue
falls onto the airway creating a physical
    obstruction
  • Heart attack/stroke

19
Causes O.S.A. Snoring
  • Structural stress
  • Major causes
  • Head injury
  • Motor Vehicle Accident
  • Birth trauma
  • Unresolved survival response
  • Cranial/jaw abnormalities

20
Head injuries/whiplash/birth trauma/stress
  • Activation of survival (fight/flight system)
  • Function of cranial/jaw/neck compromised
  • Airway Compromised
  • Suppressed digestive function
  • Mucous congestion
  • Immune function
  • Allergies

21
Chiropractic
  • Chiropractic spinal/cranial therapy has long been
known to improve snoring but the exact mechanisms
    were not understood until recently
  • Neural Organisation Technique was found to be
    very useful for snoring

22
Chemical stress Western science
  • Toxic metals/chemicals/chronic viral/bacterial/fun
    gal infection
  • O2 levels decrease
  • Free radicals increase

23
Chemical stress Chinese medicine
  • O2 transfer in lung affected by kidney function
  • Normal breathing requires assistance from kidneys
  • Kidney disharmonies may result in respiratory
    problems such as asthma
  • and snoring.
  • Functional integrity of CNS depends on kidney
    function
  • Chinese Medicine the web that has not weaver by
    Ted J.
  • Kaptchuck, Random House Pub 1992

24
Snoring is a symptom
  • Body systems imbalance
  • Principally immune/
  • digestive and hormonal.
  • All of these systems are
  • nervous system controlled and the nervous system
is protected by its bony housing.

25
Your nervous system structural housing
The nervous system is organized top down but must
receive information bottom up. i.e. your head and
pelvis need to communicate.
26
Structural housing and function of your nervous
system
  • The stability and function of these structures
combined with spinal integrity ensure your
nervous system receives the most appropriate
information to enact the most beneficial response
for you to survive and thrive.

27
Nervous system survival
28
Stress
  • Stress in all forms causes survival response in
    nervous system
  • Systemic imbalance will result if stress persists

29
Snoring Programme

achieve harmony in your nervous system and the
    body systems it controls.
