Sense Organs
  • By Tina A. Sayani
  • Marcus Collins

2
Structure of the ear
  • Semicircular canals
  • Vestibular apparatus
  • Auditory nerve
  • Cochlea
  • Oval window
  • Round window
  • Tympanic cavity
  • Eustachian
  • Ossifies
  • Eardrum

3
Function of the ear
  • Collects sound waves and channels them along the
eternal auditory meatus. The eardrum vibrates and
mechanical waves are transmitted by the ossicles
three small bones in the ear. Inside the inner
ear the cochlea are coiled tube filled with
    fluids.

4
Structure of the Eye
  • Cornea
  • Optic nerve
  • Sclerotic membrane
  • Choroids membrane
  • Retina

5
Function of the Eye
  • Light sensitive cells are located in the retina
area. Where there are the most light sensitive
cells gives us cleat vision. There are no light
sensitive cells where the nerves pass thought the
retina humor and vitreous humor help the eyes
    hold its shapes.

6
Eye detectect light/objects
  • Process of seeing begins when light enter the eye
and effects the light sensitive cells in the
retina know as cones and cods. Cones let the eyes
see color and fine detail vision in dim light.
Impulse from the cones and rod go thought the
optic nerves and the brain and tiny currents.

7
Myopia eye disease
  • Symptoms Nearsighted people often have headaches
or eyes strain, and might squint or feel fatigues
    when driving or playing sports.
  • Causes Myopia occurs when the eyeballs is
slightly longer than usual from front to back
this causes light rays to focus at point in front
    of the retina.

Treatment Nearsightedness may be corrected with glasses contact lenses or refrati surgery. Depending on your vision problem you may need to wear contact.
8
Structure/function of the tongue
  • The tongue is surrounded by the bones or the face
the upper maxilla the mandible and the palatine
and the teeth the tongue has two main parts its
muscle and its taste buds. 10,000tiny chemical
sensing bodies which is taste buds we experience
taste when food dissolved in the saliva.
  • Taste Food molecules and taste hair causes a
reaction that stimulates nerve at the cells root
which send nerve impulses to the brain

Tip salty and sweet Middle sour Back bitter
9
Detects Sound
  • Hair like sensory receptors are simulated by
vibrations of the basilar membrane. As a result
they generate nerve impulse which very with the
extent of the vibration of the of membrane.

10
Vocabulary
  • Cornea-the transparent convex anterior portion of
    the outer fibrosis.
  • Retina-a trademark for a preparation of retinoic
    acid
  • Rods-an elongated bacterium a bacillus
  • Cones-one of the photoreceptors in the retina of
the eye that is responsible for daylight and
    color vision
  • Optic nerve-a nerve that originates from the
retina and passes out of the eye
  • Nasal cavity-the cavity on either side of the
nasal septum and extending from the nares to the
    pharynx
  • Olfactory epithelium-pseudostratified epithelium
that contains olfactory and nerve cells
  • Olfactory bulb-the bulblike distal end of the
    olfactory lobe
  • Olfactory- any of the specialized nucleated cells
    of the mucous membrane
  • Taste buds-any of numerous spherical or ovoid
    clusters
  • Taste-to distinguish the flavor of by taking into
    the mouth

VOCABULARY
  • Ear- the vertebrate organ of hearing responsible
    for maintaining the equilibrium.
  • Hammer- a band tool that has with a
    perpendicularly attached head of metal.
  • Anvil- a heavy block of iron or steel with a
    smooth flat top
  • stirrup- a flat based loop or ring hung from
either side of a horse s saddle.
  • semicircular canals- having the form of half
    of a circle .
  • Auditory nerve- either of the eight pair of
cranial nerves that divides to form the
    cochlear
  • cochlea- a sprial shaped cavity of the inner
ear that resembles a snail shell
  • tympanic membrane a thin membrane separating
the middle ear from the inner part.
  • eyes- an organ of vision or light sensitivity
  • iris the goddess of the rainbow and messenger
    of gods
  • pupil- the apparently black circular opening
in the center of the iris .
