Title: Repent or Perish Luke 13:19
1Repent or PerishLuke 131-9
2Hollywood often portrays the devil in silly ways?
Actually, we need to more concerned about the sin
in us, rather than the evil out there!
3Now there were some present at that time who
told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate
had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered,
"Do you think that these Galileans were worse
sinners than all the other Galileans because they
suffered this way? I tell you, no!
4Jesus pulls us back to what is really important.
But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
5Jesus shares another example Or those eighteen
who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them-do
you think they were more guilty than all the
others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no!
6Repent metanoeo (met-an-o-eh'-o) To think
differently or afterwards, i.e. reconsider
(morally, feel compunction)
7Perish apollumi (ap-ol'-loo-mee) To destroy
fully (reflexively, to perish, or lose),
literally or figuratively
8How do you visualize the Judgment to come?
9Jesus said Then Jesus said to his disciples,
"If anyone would come after me, he must deny
himself and take up his cross and follow me.
--Matthew 1624
10Paul says that I die every day-I mean that,
brothers-just as surely as I glory over you in
Christ Jesus our Lord. --I Corinthians 1531
11Then he told this parable "A man had a fig tree,
planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for
fruit on it, but did not find any. So he said to
the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three
years now I've been coming to look for fruit on
this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down!
Why should it use up the soil?'
12"'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one
more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize
it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not,
then cut it down.'" --Luke131-9
13Our Challenge
1. Stop comparing ourselves to Others 2. Be
aware of our need to repent when our lives our
out of Gods control 3. Be aware of perishing
in our lives 4. Be aware of the fruits of our
lives
