(Fesp-UEMG1, UEMG2, Brazil) The obesity can be
considered, in a simplified way, as a condition
of abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat in
the organism. The degree of fat excess, its
distribution and association with consequences
for the health vary, consid-erably, among the
obese individuals. It is important to iden-tify
it, once the carriers of that condition present
increased risk of morbid and mortality. Studies
that involve anthro-pometric evaluation,
especially the body mass index (BMI), they have
been the form more used for the evaluation of the
state nutritional and the regulation of the
growth in children and adolescents being able to
not through this method, to be detected cases of
malnutrition or precocious obesity. This concern
with the study of the corporal composition seems
to have support in the growing increase of the
preva-lence of the obesity around the world. The
Minas Gerais State (Brazil), is included in the
more development region (south-east) of country.
On the last years the percentage obesity peoples
in Minas Gerais has been enhanced, and the
probably cause is the high caloric diet habits
(typically of place) and sedentary life style
behavior. The goal of this investigation was to
evaluate the BMI in adolescents of the south of
Minas Gerais State Brazil. The population of
the study was constituted of students belonging
to the public and private system of teaching of
Passos city, in a total scholars sample of 205,
being 108 of the feminine sex and 97 of the
masculine sex, all of then between 14-16 years
old. The BMI it was evaluated. It was observed
that all the groups possess BMI it measured
inside of the normal considered strip (20,0 to
24,99). However, in all the stud-ied groups great
width was verified. It was verified that the
feminine gender presented the largest percentage
of low weight, being of 52,6, while the masculine
was of 49,4 . Those values were inside the most
representative of the study and they are a lot
above those found in the literature. Therefore,
the values found in the present work showed that
the public education system presented the largest
per-centage of low weight, 55,6, while the
private system was of 42,6. Inside of the normal
considered weight, the pri-vate education system
prevailed with 38,9 while the pub-lic system was
of 33,3. The private education system presented
larger obesity percentage (7,4) and overweight
(11,1) in comparison to the public system that
was respec-tively of 3,4 and 7,7. Taking for
base that the scholars of the private net possess
a level of larger income in relation to the
public, those data corroborate with another
studies that verified a positive association
between the level of income and obesity in
adolescents. It is ended that the feminine gender
presents larger percentages in relation to the
mas-culine for the strips low weight and normal
weight. There is discharge prevalence of
individuals with low weight. The public education
system presents larger percentages of low weight,
while the private presents larger in overweight
and
obesity. THE AUTROS THANKS FAPEMIG FOR FINACING
