Background

• Emanuel Martinez was born in Denver, Colorado
  1947.
• The first time he created a piece of art was in a
  juvenile detention center around the Denver area.
  
• He smuggled in a pen and a napkin and there he
  found his passion and talent for art.

Artist Statement

• Art comes from a profound interest in life that
  doesnt stop there. It expresses itself in
  symbols and images that are projected in a form
  the artist hopes are understandable to the senses
  of other human beings. In most cases the artist
  wants to please. However, some forms will not
  please, may not satisfy the viewers sense of
  beauty, and that is a risk the artist always
  takes. In the end he must do what he feels he
  must do whether or not he is understood and
  accepted. . .

Vitae

• At the age of 19, Emanuel went to Mexico without
  any money to meet the famous Puerto Rican
  muralist Carmello Sabrino Martinez.
• He ended up working with him for a while and
  there he showed Emanuel the mural making process.
• Emanuels biggest help and mentor was Bill
  Longley, a painter/sculptor.

• Emanuel helped open the Museo de las Americas on
  Santa Fe street in Denver.
• He now lives in Morrison, Colorado where he has
  his home and studio.
• He is an active painter and sculptor and he is
  successful in both areas.
• He constantly has commissions in both areas
• He has a few published books as well

• He is currently working on a commissioned mural
  in Morrison
• He is also working on a commissioned sculpture in
  Topeka, Kansas dedicated to four Mariachi women
  who were killed
