  • Capabilities
  • 3D polydisperse systems
  • autoadhesive, elastoplastic frictional spheres
  • viscous pendular liquid bridges
  • ellipsoidal elastic particles
  • 3D Navier-Stokes solver for interstitial fluid
  • Applications
  • quasi-static deformation of granular media
  • agglomerate impact coalescence, fracture and
    attrition
  • hopper flow
  • rotating drums
  • fluidised beds

3
DEM simulations of fluidised beds
  • In the process engineering industries fluidised
beds are widely used for a variety of functions.
  • Experimentalists obtain very little information
about the detailed particle/gas behaviour within
the fluidised bed and this therefore provides an
    ideal opportunity for DEM.
  • 2D simulations
  • Tsuji Y, Kawaguchi T T Tanaka (1993)
  • Powder Technology 77, 79-87.
  • pseudo 3D simulations (3D particles,2D fluid)
  • Kawaguchi T, Tanaka T Tsuji Y (1998)
  • Powder Technology 96, 129-13
