  • SKIN CAT
  • Make shallow incision along nape of neck while
    pulling on skin
  • Make midline incision along back of skull, down
back to 2 onto tail. Sever tail
  • Remove skin CAREFULLY, use fingers or blunt
probes to remove it from body. Remove skin in
ventral direction. Leave skin on head, and legs
  • Once you get as far as you can without damaging
the cat, make another incision on ventral surface
and repeat process, removing skin in dorsal
direction. Try not to damage nerves/blood
vessels under skin within the superficial fascia
  • You will remove a large muscle (cutaneous
maximus), not in humans, which merges w/
latissiumus dorsi and pectoralis in axillary
region. Another cutaneous muscle (the platysma)
will be removed in neck region
  • If have a female cat, will remove mammary tissue
(but careful of underlying muscle), in males, be
very careful of reproductive, do not remove the
    scrotal covering of testes
  • Clean off as much fat and other loose
subcutaneous tissue as possible, if theres
hairs/loose tissue, rinse in cold water.

  • MUSCULAR SYSTEM
  • GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
  • Do not chop/dig, pull apart as much as possible.
Will need to remove fascia that covers muscles
when it obscures them, but do not remove the
    lumbodorsal fascia
  • Use metal probe to break connective tissue,
separate muscles at cleavage lines (pull apart
gently if necessary to find cleavage lines), then
follow each muscle to origin and insertion
  • Do not cut any muscles until directed to do so by
    lab manual
  • If dissecting for deep muscles, only do that on
one side, so the superficial muscles of the other
    side can be seen.
  • Use pics at end of chapter to draw muscles onto
human skeleton to help learn about where they are
    located, insert, etc
