Dendroecology

Dendroecology is the application of dated
tree-ring information to ecological
investigations. This course will cover the
principles of dendrochronology, the crossdating
of tree-ring patterns, and examine how these
methods have been used to study climate
past forest composition hydrology
tree growth fires volcanic eruptions
insect outbreaks avalanches The course
will have a significant amount of hands-on
exercises. By the end of the course, students
will know how to collect samples in the field, be
able to visually crossdate samples with a master
chronology and check results with computer and
graphical techniques, and interpret
dendroecological data.
