Activities for 2006

• Organised (with Clarke and Bassom) the
  COSNet/COSNet(SA) Workshop on The Complex
  Dynamics of Rotating Fluids at the National Wine
  Centre, University of Adelaide in July 2006.
• Jointly funded by COSNet and COSNET(SA)
• 20 registered participants.
• 17 talks over two days on topics ranging from
  atmospheric blocking to nonlinear Rossby wave
  critical layers were discussed
• Developments for an annual meeting in 2007 to be
  hosted by the Research School of Earth Sciences
  at the ANU

Activities for 2006

• Regular Seminar Series on Complex Systems - talks
  ranging from dynamical systems (MacKay), Eulers
  disk (Moffatt), Mixing and braids (Finn),
  Pulsatile flow (Waters), Synthetic jets
  (Watmuff), Boundary-layer receptivity
  (Hammerton), Normal forms for excitable media
  (Gottwald), Optimal chaotic mixing (Balasuriya)
  and others.
• Regular series of international visitors funded
  through COSNet(SA) funds.
• Support for local graduate students and ECRs to
  attend COSNet events.

Plans for 2007

• More of the same!
• Workshop on transition and flow control -
  tentatively planned for September 2007.
• Explore possibility of establishing Adelaide
  Centre for Complex Systems Science (Williams et
  al.)
• Sort out the problems with the local AG so that
  the management committee meetings are less trying
  on the senses.
