Workshop Speaker Fee Background
  • Problems reported by Workshop organizers
regarding imposition of registration fees on
    presenters
  • Is there a reason to treat any speakers
preferentially, as a matter of general practice?
  • Session speakers must go through the peer review
process while workshop and some tutorial do not
  • Session material is archival while
    workshop/tutorial is not normally considered
    archival
  • Workshop speakers are invited and get significant
recognition but not for deliverable material
  • Waiving fees in general can set a precedent for
    waiving other fees
  • Financial impact of waiving all workshop
presenter fees in 2005 would be from 50 to 70K

9
Straw Vote
  • Speakers at workshops shall be charged normal
registration fees for attending the workshop in
which they are presenting. There shall be a
provision to waive the fee for extenuating
circumstances at the discretion of the IMS
    Chairman.
