7NROC Fire Management Plan
- Goal
- To identify and promote fire management
practices that ensure persistence of covered
species and habitats
8Fire Management the challenge
- Our natural communities are fire adapted
however, - Too frequent fires can convert scrub communities
to weeds and reduce target wildlife populations - Urban development results in increased sources of
ignition
9Fire Management the challenge
- Since 1993, 80 of NROC has burned in wildfire
events - Only one fire was natural ignition
- Frequent fires threaten long term viability of
target communities and species.
10NROC Fire Management Focus
- To prevent and contain wildfires to protect
species and habitat - To minimize impacts of fire suppression on
sensitive resources - Engage fire agencies and landowners in fire
management planning and implementation
11NROC Wildland Fire Management Plan
- 13 Management Compartments 57 fire units
- Tactical (Fire Fighting) Map and Text
- Sensitive Resource Map and Text
12NROC Wildland Fire Management Plan
- Identifies pre-suppression guidelines for fire
prevention and preparedness - Establishes fire response guidelines to be used
by Fire Agencies on Reserve Lands that cause
least amount of damage to natural resources - Establishes post-fire rehabilitation and
management guidance.
13Pre-Fire Guidelines
- Fire Prevention
- Fire Access
- Fuel treatments/buffers for sensitive
areas/species
14Fire Response Guidelines

Management
