Foundation Installation for a Single Cylinder
Two-Stoke Ajax DP-115
2The engine test foundations and research
facility was made possible through the financial
support of the Department of Energy The
location behind the NGML was the chosen location
for the engine foundations.
3Site clean up
- All the equipment that was located in the back of
the lab was moved.
4Ground Breaking
A eleven by fourteen by three feet hole was dug
for engine foundation base.
5Base Rails and Rebar
The base rails were donated by Ajax a division of
Cooper. These rails will be used to hold down the
engine and allows the flexibility to move the
engine and dynamometer with ease.
623 Yards of Concrete
The engine base foundation alone used 23 yards of
concrete. The engine foundation is designed to
handle torque loads up to 2500 FT-LBS and the
AJAX engine which weighs 15,000lbs.
7Sidewalks Second Foundation
On the right Allen Adriani, a graduate student,
is over looking the work that is being done.
Allen designed the layout for the test cell.
Here the second foundation has just been poured.
The foundation will be used to test smaller
engine that have hydrogen injected into them
8Foundations Complete
9Engine Delivery
Dr. Chapman and Sandy Chapman are watching
eagerly as the Ajax engine is being lifted of the
truck.
Ken Robison from Exline delivered the engine
pro-bono.
10Setting the Engine
Allen Adriani and Dr. Keshavarz discuss where
exactly they want to place the engine.
Allen is squaring up the engine with his markings
11Final Home
The Ajax DP-115 and Dynamometer are set in place.
