• Climate
• Mediterranean climate, with mild, wet winters and
  hot, dry summers
• Geography
• Southern Europe, bordering the Aegean Sea, Ionian
  Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea, between Albania
  and Turkey
• Mountains divide Greece into many land regions.
  High peaks cut off valleys and plains from one

Historical Background

• The Greek War of Independence began in 1821 and
  concluded in 1830 when England, France, and
  Russia forced the Ottoman Empire to grant Greece
  its independence under a European monarch, Prince
  Otto of Bavaria.
