Standard I - Eligibility
  • Former standards I (Institution) and II
    (Administration) are integrated
  • Eligibility continues to require The clinical,
    counselling or school psychology programme is
    housed and operated by a Canadian provincially or
    territorially chartered university.
  • Programmes abide by April 15th deadline for
    students to accept an offer of programme
    admission and/or financial support as stated in
    CPAs Graduate Guide.

Standard II Philosophy, Mission and Curriculum
  • Mapping of MRA Competencies onto Standards
  • Foundations of Professional Psychology now also
    includes criterion on Interpersonal Relationships
    (e.g. therapeutic relationships, therapeutic
    alliance and professional rapport, self knowledge
    and the impact of therapist characteristics on
    professional relationships, effective
    communication)
  • Programmes act in accordance with relevant
    federal and provincial privacy legislation.

  • Diversity and related accommodation are given the
    same importance as any other facility or resource
    needed by the programme to meet its goals.

  • Articulation of practicum experience

Standard VIII Practicum and Internship
  • Minimum of 600 supervised hours of
    service-related activities to patients/clients.
  • 50 of this supervised experience is Direct,
    face-to-face patient/client contact
    (interviewing, assessing, or intervening with
    clients).

Standard VIII Practicum and Internship continued
  • 50 Indirect service is in clinically-relevant in
    support of the direct service (e.g., progress and
    process notes,report writing, case treatment
    planning, consultation, session review,
    supervision, case presentations, case-relevant
    literature reviews, rounds, case conferences,
    learning new psychological measures and/or
    interventions/treatments and professional
    development/continuing education that supports
    specific patient/client care).

Standard VIII Practicum and Internship
  • Supervision must account for 50 of indirect
    service.
  • 75 of the supervision provided will be
    individual supervision (now 3 rather 4 hours of
    individual supervision)
  • 25 of the supervision provided can be group
    supervision

Individual Supervision
  • can occur in either of 2 formats
  • between the supervisor and supervisee as the only
    participants, or
  • in a group format among a number of supervisors
    and supervisees. However, individual supervision
    only occurs in a group format if it is structured
    such that each student has a designated and
    regular amount of time to present his or her
    case(s).

Group Supervision
  • defined as activities or meetings in which
  • students participate in the supervision of
    psychological service received by another intern
    or trainee
  • some combination of interns and supervisors meet
    to review or discuss some method or technique of
    psychological service delivery, particular
    problems or disorders, or a professional or
    ethical issue affecting practice.

Internship
  • 4 hours of weekly supervision
  • 3 hours of individual as defined above
  • 1 hour of group supervision
  • Supervisors
  • Professional Psychologists Registered
  • Doctoral level
  • Competent in the area

  • Updated to address changes in concurrent CPA/APA
    accreditation (eg. Separate decisions and
    different terms)
  • Communication with the Panel
  • Submission of annual reports
  • Clarification of deadlines and penalties
  • Panel membership and Board liaison

  • Suggested revisions received at conversation
    sessions at the past 3 Conventions--done
  • Revision draft completed -- January 2009--done
  • Panel review -- April 2009--done
  • Web-based consultation from June 30 to February
    15, 2009--ongoing
  • Final draft reviewed for April 2010 Panel Meeting
  • Board approval June 2010
  • Translation Fall 2010
  • Release for Toronto Convention -- June 2011
  • Implementation 2011-12 academic year
