  for recertification that is
• Informed by self-study
• Grounded in professional standards
• Supported by professional development activities
  chosen by the educator

Who Is Required to Participate?

• Beginning January 1, 2005, all Rhode Island
  educators renewing certificates in use for
  their current work assignment.
• Any newly certified educator who obtains a
  position using that certificate.

What are the qualifying Professional Development
Categories?

• 1. College and University Coursework
• 2. Conferences/Workshops Training Sessions
• 3. Collaborative and Partnership Activities
• 4. Involvement in Development/Improvement
  Processes.
• 5. Individually-Guided Professional Development
• 6. Professional Leadership Experiences

How is the I-Plan Implemented?

• Submit an I-Plan for approval.
• Participate in and document completed
  professional development activities to support
  I-Plan goals.
• Provide annual updates of completed professional
  development activities.
• Submit final verification forms of professional
  development activities and the professional
  analysis.

How many goals-related professional development
hours are required?

• 150 total hours are required for a 5-year
  professional certificate.
• Educators show a minimum of 20 hours per goal.

How do I renew my certificate with I-Plan?

1. Submit final verification forms of all completed
   professional development activities as they
   relate to goals during the past five years.
2. Submit the professional analysis.
3. Review and acceptance, by RIDE, of the
   professional development activities is the basis
   for renewal.
