    Act was signed into law by President Richard
    Nixon.
  • Why?
  • 14,000 Americans killed on the job each year
  • 2,000,000 disabling injuries each year
  • Plus occupational exposures and diseases

  • Employers are responsible for complying with all
    rules and regulations of the OSHA Act.
  • Employees have rights.
  • Freedom of Information about chemicals, toxic
    agents.
  • Information about exposures to harmful materials

  • Employees may contact OSHA in writing or verbally
  • You may confer in private with OSHA officials
  • You may accompany an OSHA official during a walk
    around at your facility
  • You may file a complaint if you have been
    discriminated against for contacting OSHA

    number of fatal injuries.

  • 682 from the construction trades (craftsmen)
  • 840 Hispanics
  • 491 African Americans
