LOCATION
  • Located in the present-day country of Iraq
  • Located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
  • It was approximately 300 miles long and 150 miles
    wide

  • Northern Mesopotamia is made up of hills and
    plains
  • The land is quite fertile due to seasonal rains,
    and the rivers and streams flowing from the
    mountains.
  • Southern Mesopotamia is made up of marshy areas
    and wide, flat, barren plains

  • Mesopotamia is located between the Tigris and
    Euphrates Rivers.
  • Called the Fertile Crescent for rich farmland.
  • The first settlers were farmers and fisherman.

  • Flooding provided silt, a rich mixture of rock
    and soil.
  • Silt made the nearby land possible to farm.
  • Drought or times without rain made farming
    difficult.
  • Irregular flooding and droughts caused
    Mesopotamians to find was of getting water to
    their fields. This was Irrigation.
