What can I do at home to help my child be
prepared?...
  • Read nightly with your child
  • Periodically, stop your child as he/she is
    reading and ask them to summarize what has just
    been read
  • Encourage your child to reread portions of text
    that they may not understand
  • Expose your child to consumer text examples
    (recipes, brochures, charts, tables, newspapers,
    magazines, cereal boxes, junk mail, etc.)
