  • The Tucks tell Winnie about the dangerous dark
    secret after they kidnap her
  • Jesse sang funny old songs in a loud voice and
    swung like a monkey from the branches of a tree,
    showing off shamelessly for Winnie
  • Jesse and Winnie are friends after the Tucks
    kidnap Winnie

Chapter 9
  • On the way to Tucks house Miles carried Winnie.
  • Everybody was home when they all saw a wide stand
    of pines.
  • Winnies shyness came back when Winnie saw
  • Angus Tuck.
  • When Angus Tuck sees Winnie he says that the best
    thats happened to me in eighty years.

  • In the Tucks house there stood the forgotten
    shotgun.
  • The furniture was loose and droopy
  • with age.
  • On the old beamed ceiling of the parlor, streaks
    of light swam and danced and wavered like a
    bright mirage, reflected through the window.
  • Winnie widened her eyes when she thought of a
    whole new idea.

  • There seemed to be no rules for dinner at the
    Tucks.
  • During dinner Winnie said she wanted to go home.
  • Miles didnt think Pa was serious.
  • The Tucks asked about who the man in the yellow
    suit was.

  • The sky was a ragged blaze of red, pink, and
    orange.
  • The still surface of the water dimpled, and
    bright rings spread noiselessly and vanished.
  • The rowboat drifted to the end of the pond and
    Tuck told Winnie about the magic water.
  • Miles yells to Tuck that someone stole the horse.

  • The man in the yellow suit stole the Tucks
    horse.
  • The man in the yellow suit went to the Tucks
    house and knocked on the door.
  • The man in the yellow suit says that he knows
    where the Tucks have taken Winnie.

  • There had nothing for the tucks to do except for
    go to bed.
  • It was to dark to go look for the horse thief
    anyway.
  • The question was is just so ordinary thief.

    Winnie Foster is.

    little on the horses saddle.

    were gliding in the water.

  • The Tucks and Winnie had flapjacks for breakfast
    because Winnie didnt want to kill the fish.
  • At breakfast, it was quiet, until someone knocked
    at the door.

    that moment.

    force.
  • The man in the yellow suit is telling the Tucks
    that he wants to sell the magic water.

    the Fosters did own.
  • Mae hits the man with the stock of the shotgun.

  • Winnie didnt want to go home with the man.
  • The man in the yellow suit looks knocked out by
    the shotgun.
  • Since Mae hit the man in the yellow suit with her
    shotgun the constable said that if the man dies
    she could get the gallows.

  • Winnie pulled her little rocking chair up to her
    bedroom window to sit down.
  • She had been given that rocking chair when she
    was a little girl.
  • The constable had brought her home.

  • After breakfast Winnie went directly out to the
    fence.
  • There was so much heat that the water went down
    in the ground very quickly.
  • The constable is so proud about his new jail.
  • At midnight she would make a difference in the
    world.

  • It was the hottest day of the year, it was to hot
    to even think.
  • The air was noticeably heavier, it pressed
    against Winnies chest and made her breathing
    difficult.
  • Winnie had to wait for midnight she sat in her
    rocker, bed, and she sat on the floor.

  • Winnie was astonished when she left the house so
    easy.
  • Leaving the house was like leaving something real
    and going into a dream.
