Body Temperature Effected by

• Metabolic heat production metabolism causes an
  ? in body heat depending on the intensity of the
  physical activity the higher the metabolic rate,
  the more the heat production

• Evaporation sweat glands in the skin allow
  water to be transported to the surface, where it
  evaporates, taking with it large amounts of heat
  this is dependent on humidity (the amount of
  water in the air) The average person sweats off
  about one quart of water/hour

Types of Heat Illness

• Heat Rash asso.with a red rash, usually raised
  and feels tingling during sweating
• Heat Syncope (fainting)

• Heat cramps extremely painful muscle spasm
• Heat exhaustion occurs when a person is exposed
  to high environmental temp. and/or humidity and
  perspires excessively without salt or fluid
  replacement. The person tends to be in poor
  physical condition

• Rapid pulse
• Disoriented
• Excessive fatigue
• Weakness

• Dizziness
• Hyperventilation
• Muscle Cramping
