that reflects legislative compliance and the
    latest directions in human services

Person Centered Approaches
  • Historically, human services were provided in a
one size fits all model. This was limited and
in many instances resulted in over servicing,
de-skilling and de-valuing people by giving them
a higher level of intervention or support than
    needed
  • Person Centered Approaches focus on individual
need, dreams and hopes and are highly flexible to
ensure that people who seek services and
supports, and their families are the drivers of
their own life plans, having control over
    important decisions that effect them

6
Social Role Valorisation (SRV)
  • SRV is relevant to people in society who are
already, or at risk of being societally devalued
  • Historically, people with disabilities have been
    devalued and subsequently disadvantaged. Examples
of people with a disability being devalued
include, segregation and negative language used
    to describe their disability
  • SRV principles mold supports so that the result
is image and competency enhancement of people
    with disabilities. Their perception of
themselves, their role within their family, home,
work and their community are positively increased

7
Continuous Improvement
  • Peoples lives, needs and wishes are not static
and therefore, lifestyle planning must be
flexible and regularly reviewed to accommodate,
    support and encourage this change
  • Periodic reflection on how legislation and
standards are implemented in light of new
research and directions in relation to human
    services best practice is essential
  • Staff should be trained as required to ensure
that adequate competencies are possessed to
deliver services and supports in line with the
    services policy position
  • No two services will have the same policy
position if person centered approaches are the
    core of all planning

8
Amethyst Policy Development Process
  1. Identification of policy development need in
partnership with service manager (I.e legislated
    standards of practice)
  2. Identification of key consultation stakeholders
  3. Conduct consultations using the Amethyst Human
Services Policy Framework, applied to the
    legislative standards
  4. Identify examples of complying practices, how
they used PCT, SRV and where they can be improved
  5. Link to related policy and legislative
    requirements, reference material and training
  6. Identify a date for review
  7. Service staff to sign in agreement as part of the
    terms of their employment
