4GOD'S WILL FOR MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE
- GODS ATTITUDE TOWARD DIVORCE
- ELIGIBILITY FOR SCRIPTURAL MARRIAGE
- GODS WILL FOR THE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
5GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE COHABITING OUTSIDE
OF MARRIAGE
- A. It is God's will for those who are merely
cohabiting to - 1. Repent.
- Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed
undefiled but fornicators and adulterers God
will judge. (Heb. 134)
6GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE COHABITING OUTSIDE
OF MARRIAGE
- A. It is God's will for those who are merely
cohabiting to - 1. Repent.
- Do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor
thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the
kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But
you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you
were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and
by the Spirit of our God. (1 Cor. 69-11)
7GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNSCRIPTURALLY
MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the unscripturally
married to - 1. Divorce.
- "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife,
except for sexual immorality, and marries
another, commits adultery and whoever marries
her who is divorced commits adultery." (Matt.
199) - Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed
undefiled but fornicators and adulterers God
will judge. (Heb. 134)
8GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNSCRIPTURALLY
MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the unscripturally
married to - 1. Divorce.
- Therefore put to death your members which are on
the earth fornication, uncleanness, passion,
evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Because of these things the wrath of God is
coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which
you yourselves once walked when you lived in
them. (Col. 35-7)
9GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on
Adam, and he slept and He took one of his ribs,
and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the
rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made
into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And
Adam said
10GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- "This is now bone of my bones
- And flesh of my flesh
- She shall be called Woman,
- Because she was taken out of Man."
- Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and they shall become
one flesh. (Gen. 221-24)
11GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- And He answered and said to them, "Have you not
read that He who made them at the beginning 'made
them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason
a man shall leave his father and mother and be
joined to his wife, and the two shall become one
flesh'? So then, they are no longer two but one
flesh. Therefore what God has joined together,
let not man separate." (Matt. 195-6)
12GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to
those who know the law), that the law has
dominion over a man as long as he lives? For the
woman who has a husband is bound by the law to
her husband as long as he lives. But if the
husband dies, she is released from the law of her
husband. (Rom. 71-2)
13GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- Satisfy one another's desires for affection.
- Let the husband render to his wife the affection
due her, and likewise also the wife to her
husband. The wife does not have authority over
her own body, but the husband does. And likewise
the husband does not have authority over his own
body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one
another....
14GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- Satisfy one another's desires for affection.
- ... except with consent for a time, that you may
give yourselves to fasting and prayer and come
together again so that Satan does not tempt you
because of your lack of self-control. (1 Cor.
73-5).
15GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- A. It is God's will for the scripturally married
to - 1. Be married for life.
- Satisfy one another's desires for affection.
- Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed
undefiled but fornicators and adulterers God
will judge. (Heb. 134).
16GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- But I want you to know that the head of every man
is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head
of Christ is God. (1 Cor. 113) - For the husband is head of the wife, as also
Christ is head of the church and He is the
Savior of the body. (Eph. 523).
17GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- Therefore, just as the church is subject to
Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands
in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for
her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with
the washing of water by the word,

- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- that He might present her to Himself a glorious
church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without
blemish.
19GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- So husbands ought to love their own wives as
their own bodies he who loves his wife loves
himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but
nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does
the church.
20GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- For we are members of His body, of His flesh and
of His bones. "For this reason a man shall leave
his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh."
21GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning
Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one
of you in particular so love his own wife as
himself, and let the wife see that she respects
her husband. (Eph. 524-33)
22GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter
toward them. (Col. 319)
23GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- Give honor to his wife.
- Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with
understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to
the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of
the grace of life, that your prayers may not be
hindered. (1 Peter 37).
24GOD'S WILL FOR THOSE WHO ARE SCRIPTURALLY MARRIED
- B. It is God's will for a scriptural husband to
- 1. Be the head of his wife.
- 2. Lovesee to the needs ofhis wife.
- Give honor to his wife.
- Provide for his family.
- But if anyone does not provide for his own, and
especially for those of his household, he has
denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
(1 Tim. 58).
