  • The surgical technologist handles the
    instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary
    during the surgical procedure

    being performed and anticipates the needs of the
    surgeon

TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical
    procedure
  • Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies,
    equipment, and medications/solutions needed for
    procedure
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior
    to the operation and before incision is closed

Surgical Technology Schedule
  • First semester classes are 900 a.m. until
    100p.m. M,T,W,Th and 200-300 p.m. W.
  • Second semester, clinicals are scheduled for 630
    a.m. T,Th, with classes 800 a.m.-230 p.m.,
    M,W,F.
  • Third semester, students are in class Monday from
    8-5 and are in clinicals for 33 hours, T,W,TH, F.
  • Students usually devote 40 hours per week each
    semester to their education in Surgical
    Technology.
