Emergency evacuations Safety Capacity of
transportation systems

• 2005 Hurricanes at New Orleans have
  provoked intense discussion of the problems of
  evacuating great numbers of residents.
• Normally an open highway with three lanes of
  traffic should carry up to 3,600 automobiles per
  hour, totally inadequate to evacuate.
• Congestion on the highway brought the traffic to
  a standstill.
• This experience has highlighted a need for a
  robust low energy consuming, high-capacity,
  wind-resistant transit system, capable of rapidly
  transporting residents and workers
• Away from hazards to safe locations or emergency
  shelters.
• As a rescue vehicle, able to return workers and
  supplies regardless of damage and flooding on the
  ground. Able to manipulate personnel and
  equipment enroute using improved helicopter
  lifts!
• One Sky Train line can transport up to 40,000
  passengers per hour!
