Imperial College Junior Research Fellowships
  • 2008 Imperial launched a Junior Research
    Fellowship scheme
  • 3.6m of Imperial funding to support the careers
    of brilliant young scientists and facilitate the
    development of an independent research career
  • Up to 60 scientists in the first three years
  • 20 Fellowships now under offer.

  • Who is this scheme for?
  • Outstanding individuals early in their postdoc
    career (up to 4 years postdoc)
  • Upper second or first class undergraduate degree
    with a PhD or equivalent is required. Note
    differences in requirement by Faculties.
  • Any nationality
  • Internal and external applicants
  • Research areas of relevance to Imperial research
    base
  • Hopefully you!

Imperial College Junior Research Fellowships
  • What do Junior Research Fellowships provide?
  • An opportunity to spend up to 12 months at
    another institution including overseas and
    industry. 
  • Three years salary. (29690-34,920)
  • Lab space, facilities and mentor (the sponsor)
  • Up to 10K contribution per annum towards
    expenses.
  • Career development and cohort activities.
  • No teaching or administrative duties
  • Expectation that successful applicants will seek
    additional funds to further build research
    programme

  • An academic at Imperial
  • Will provide support, lab space and facilities
  • Can only have one JRF at any one time
  • The prospective fellow is responsible for
    identifying their Sponsor

    tenured member of staff)
  • Develop a research programme

Applications that meet basic eligibility criteria
Faculty Review Panel Jan 2010
  • Assessment Criteria
  • standing of the applicant based on CV
  • scientific merit of the proposed research
  • the appropriateness of the sponsor and host
    laboratory
  • ability of the research proposal to provide the
    Fellow with an independent career
