Title: Amazing Grace

1
Amazing Grace
2
It Saves
  • Amazing Grace! How sweet
    the sound that saved a

    wretch like me!
  • Ephesians 28-9
  • 1 Timothy 113-15
  • Paul could literally say, I was blind, but now I
    see
  • Acts 917

3
Ephesians 28-9
  • For by grace you have been
    saved through faith, and that
not of yourselves it is the gift of
God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

4
1 Timothy 113-15
  • I was formerly a blasphemer,
a persecutor, and an insolent man
but I obtained mercy because I did it
ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our
Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and
love which are in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a
faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance,
that Christ Jesus came into the world to save
sinners, of whom I am chief.

5
Acts 917
  • And Ananias went his way and
entered the house and laying his
hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord
Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you
came, has sent me that you may receive your sight
and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

6
It Teaches
  • Twas Grace that taught my heart to
    fear
  • Titus 211-14
  • Note People must be taught how the grace of God
saves. It is through Christ that we have access
by faith into this grace (cf. Romans 512).

7
Titus 211-14
  • For the grace of God that brings
salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness
and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age, 13
looking for the blessed hope and glorious
appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus
Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might
redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for
Himself His own special people, zealous for good
    works.

8
It Keeps Us Safe
  • Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and
    grace will lead me home.
  • Romans 837-39
  • 2 Peter 15-10
  • Through many dangers, toils and snaresI have
    already come

9
Romans 837-39
  • Yet in all these things we are
    more than conquerors through
Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that
neither death nor life, nor angels nor
principalities nor powers, nor things present nor
things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any
other created thing, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our
    Lord.

10
2 Peter 15-10
  • But also for this very reason, giving
all diligence, add to your faith
    virtue, to virtue
knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to
    self-control perseverance, to perseverance
godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and
to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things
are yours and abound, you will be neither barren
nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is
shortsighted, even to blindness, and has
forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to
make your call and election sure, for if you do
these things you will never stumble.

11
It Provides Hope
  • The Lord has promised good to me, His
    word my hope secures
  • Romans 824-25
  • Hebrews 617-20
  • Gods Amazing Gracebrings about Amazing Hope

12
Romans 824-25
  • For we were saved in this hope,
but hope that is seen is not hope
for why does one still hope for what he
sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see,
we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

13
Hebrews 617-20
  • Thus God, determining to show
more abundantly to the heirs of promise
    the immutability of His
counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two
immutable things, in which it is impossible for
God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who
have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set
before us. 19 This hope we have as an anchor of
the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which
enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the
forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having
become High Priest forever according to the order
    of Melchizedek.

14
It Speaks of Eternity
  • When weve been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun weve no less days
to sing Gods praise than when we first
    begun.
  • 2 Corinthians 51
  • Romans 622-23
  • God assures us that eternal life is the reward of
    the faithful (cf. Matthew 2546)

15
2 Corinthians 51
  • For we know that if our earthly
house, this tent, is destroyed, we
have a building from God, a house not made
with hands, eternal in the heavens.

16
Romans 622-23
  • But now having been set free
    from sin, and having become
slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness,
and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

17
Amazing Grace
The song expresses wonderful sentiments, and we
should sing it often. However, the Grace the
songdescribes is even greater! We should praise
God for the wonderful gift of eternal life that
He has given usthrough His Son.
