The Revelation of Jesus Christ
  • (Rev 11 NKJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ,
which God gave Him to show His servants things
which must shortly take place. And He sent and
signified it by His angel to His servant John,

4
The Revelation of Jesus Christ
  • Revelation - ??p??a????? Apokalupsis,
  • Apocalypse means properly, nakedness
  • It would apply to anything which had been covered
up so as to be hidden from the view, as by a
veil, a darkness, in an ark or chest, and then
made manifest by removing the covering. It comes
then to be used in the sense of disclosing or
revealing, by removing the veil of darkness or
    ignorance.

5
Which God gave Him
  • The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave
    Him.
  • God is the ultimate source, but it comes through
    Christ.
  • God is the One behind it all.
  • It is God Who knows all.

6
To reveal the future, not Christ
  • To show His servants things which must shortly
    take place.
  • things which must . . . take place.
  • Why must they take place?
  • Could be part of Gods desires for justice.
  • Could be a natural result of things taking place.

7
To reveal the near future
  • To show His servants things which must shortly
    take place.
  • While some think this means all things must
shortly take place, The all is added by us It is
not necessary to suppose that the meaning is that
all that there is in the book was soon to happen.
It may mean that the series of events which were
to follow on in their . . .

8
To reveal the near future
  • proper order was soon to commence, though it
might be that the sequel would be remote. The
first in the series of events was soon to begin,
and the others would follow on in their train,
though a portion of them, in the regular order,
might be in a remote futurity. -- Albert Barnes

9
Signified is not sign-i-fied
  • (Rev 11 NASB) The Revelation of Jesus Christ,
which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants,
the things which must shortly take place and He
sent and communicated it by His angel to His
    bond-servant John,
  • And He sent and signified it by His angel to His
    servant John,

10
The Only other places the word is used
  • Joh_1233 Joh_1832 Joh_2119 Act_1128
    Act_2527,
  • (John 1232-33 NKJV) "And I, if I am lifted up
from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself."
33 This He said, signifying by what death He
    would die.

11
The Only other places the word is used
  • Joh_1832 Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
  • (John 1831-32 NKJV) Then Pilate said to them,
"You take Him and judge Him according to your
law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not
lawful for us to put anyone to death," 32 that
the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He
spoke, signifying by what death He would die.

12
Other places the word is used
  • Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
  • (John 2118-19 NKJV) "Most assuredly, I say to
you, when you were younger, you girded yourself
and walked where you wished but when you are
old, you will stretch out your hands, and another
will gird you and carry you where you do not
wish." 19 This He spoke, signifying by what
death he would glorify God. And when He had
spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me.

13
Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
  • (Acts 1128 KJV) And there stood up one of them
named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that
there should be great dearth throughout all the
world which came to pass in the days of Claudius
    Caesar.
  • (Acts 1128 NKJV) Then one of them, named
Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that
there was going to be a great famine throughout
all the world, which also happened in the days of
    Claudius Caesar.

14
Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
  • (Acts 2527 KJV) For it seemeth to me
unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal
to signify the crimes laid against him.
  • (Acts 2527 NKJV) "For it seems to me
unreasonable to send a prisoner and not to
    specify the charges against him."

15
by His angel to His servant John,
  • Message to His angel
  • To His Servant John
  • To all who would read or hear.

16
John was a faithful witness.
  • (Rev 12 NKJV) who bore witness to the word of
God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all
    things that he saw.

17
Blessed is he who reads or hears
  • (Rev 13 NKJV) Blessed is he who reads and those
who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep
those things which are written in it for the
    time is near.

18
And keep those things which are written therein -
  • Keep in mind those things which relate to the
future and obey those things which arc required
as truth and duty. The blessing which results
from having in possession the revealed truth of
God is not merely in reading it, or in hearing
it it results from the fact that the truth is
properly regarded, and exerts a suitable
influence over our lives. -- Albert Barnes

19
To the seven churches in Asia
  • (Rev 14 NKJV) John, to the seven churches which
are in Asia Grace to you and peace from Him who
is and who was and who is to come, and from the
seven Spirits who are before His throne,

from the east and flashes to the west, so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 "For
wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be
gathered together. 29 "Immediately after the
tribulation of those days the sun will be
darkened, and the moon will not give its light
the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers
of the heavens will be shaken.

25
The Son of Man coming on the clouds
  • (Mat 2427-31 NKJV) 30 "Then the sign of the
Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all
the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will
see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven

  • (Rev 19 NKJV) I, John, both your brother and
companion in the tribulation and kingdom and
patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that
is called Patmos for the word of God and for the
    testimony of Jesus Christ.
  • (John 2122 NKJV) Jesus said to him, "If I will
that he remain till I come, what is that to you?

that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven
    golden lampstands,
  • (Rev 120 NKJV) and the seven lampstands which
you saw are the seven churches.

32
Jesus is in the midst of the churches
  • (Rev 113 NKJV) and in the midst of the seven
lampstands One like the Son of Man, clothed with
a garment down to the feet and girded about the
    chest with a golden band.

33
A Description of Christ
  • (Rev 114 NKJV) His head and hair were white
like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a
    flame of fire

34
The sound of many waters
  • (Rev 115 NKJV) His feet were like fine brass,
as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the
    sound of many waters
  • It doesnt sound that loud, but can you talk over
    it?

35
The Seven Stars

stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged
sword, and His countenance was like the sun
    shining in its strength.

which you saw in My right hand, and the seven
golden lampstands The seven stars are the angels
    of the seven churches,

36
John is overwhelmed!
  • (Rev 117 NKJV) And when I saw Him, I fell at
His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on
me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid I am the
    First and the Last.

37
He has all power Authority
  • (Rev 118 NKJV) "I am He who lives, and was
dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen.
And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
  • a??d?? hades
  • properly unseen, that is, Hades or the place
(state) of departed souls - grave, hell.

38
What it is all about
  • (Rev 119 NKJV) "Write the things which you have
seen, and the things which are, and the things
which will take place after this.

39
What it is all about
  • (Rev 119 NKJV)
  • "Write the things which you have seen,
  • He say what was in chapter 1.
  • and the things which are,
  • That will be chapters 2 3 the 7 churches.
  • and the things which will take place after this.
  • The rest of the book the rest of time.

40
One point we didnt discuss
  • (Rev 120 NKJV) "The mystery of the seven stars
which you saw in My right hand, and the seven
golden lampstands The seven stars are the angels
of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands
which you saw are the seven churches.

41
The angels of the seven churches
  • a???e???
  • Aggelos Angelos
  • Thayer Definition
  • 1) a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel,
    a messenger from God
  • I believe these were the preachers, or elders of
the churches. How else would John be able to
    talk to them?

42
A special blessing on those who hear or read this
book.
  • (Rev 13 NKJV) Blessed is he who reads and those
who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep
those things which are written in it for the
    time is near.

43
Why Revelation instead of Isaiah?
  • The lessons in Isaiah tend to be somewhat
repetitive of things we have already studied.
  • We lose part of the feeling of the story since we
    already studied the historical events.
  • Revelation is more relevant to our time.
  • I believe Gods wants us to be informed about
what we may see in our lifetime.
