 2Revelation 1
 3The Revelation of Jesus Christ
- (Rev 11 NKJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ,
which God gave Him to show His servants things
which must shortly take place. And He sent and
signified it by His angel to His servant John,
  4The Revelation of Jesus Christ
- Revelation - ??p??a????? Apokalupsis,
 - Apocalypse means properly, nakedness
 - It would apply to anything which had been covered
up so as to be hidden from the view, as by a
veil, a darkness, in an ark or chest, and then
made manifest by removing the covering. It comes
then to be used in the sense of disclosing or
revealing, by removing the veil of darkness or
ignorance.
  5Which God gave Him
- The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave
Him. - God is the ultimate source, but it comes through
Christ. - God is the One behind it all.
 - It is God Who knows all.

6To reveal the future, not Christ
- To show His servants things which must shortly
take place. - things which must . . . take place.
 - Why must they take place?
 - Could be part of Gods desires for justice.
 - Could be a natural result of things taking place.

  7To reveal the near future
- To show His servants things which must shortly
take place. - While some think this means all things must
shortly take place, The all is added by us It is
not necessary to suppose that the meaning is that
all that there is in the book was soon to happen.
It may mean that the series of events which were
to follow on in their . . .
  8To reveal the near future
- proper order was soon to commence, though it
might be that the sequel would be remote. The
first in the series of events was soon to begin,
and the others would follow on in their train,
though a portion of them, in the regular order,
might be in a remote futurity. -- Albert Barnes
  9Signified is not sign-i-fied
- (Rev 11 NASB) The Revelation of Jesus Christ,
which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants,
the things which must shortly take place and He
sent and communicated it by His angel to His
bond-servant John,
- And He sent and signified it by His angel to His
servant John,

 - (John 1831-32 NKJV) Then Pilate said to them,
"You take Him and judge Him according to your
law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not
lawful for us to put anyone to death," 32 that
the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He
spoke, signifying by what death He would die.
12 Other places the word is used
- Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
 - (John 2118-19 NKJV) "Most assuredly, I say to
you, when you were younger, you girded yourself
and walked where you wished but when you are
old, you will stretch out your hands, and another
will gird you and carry you where you do not
wish." 19 This He spoke, signifying by what
death he would glorify God. And when He had
spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me.
  13 Joh_2119 Act_1128 Act_2527,
- (Acts 1128 KJV) And there stood up one of them
named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that
there should be great dearth throughout all the

Caesar.
- (Acts 1128 NKJV) Then one of them, named
Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that

15by His angel to His servant John,
- Message to His angel
 - To His Servant John
 - To all who would read or hear.

  16John was a faithful witness.
- (Rev 12 NKJV) who bore witness to the word of
God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all
things that he saw.
17Blessed is he who reads or hears
- (Rev 13 NKJV) Blessed is he who reads and those
who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep
those things which are written in it for the
time is near.
18And keep those things which are written therein -
- Keep in mind those things which relate to the
future and obey those things which arc required
as truth and duty. The blessing which results
from having in possession the revealed truth of
God is not merely in reading it, or in hearing
it it results from the fact that the truth is
properly regarded, and exerts a suitable
influence over our lives. -- Albert Barnes

- (Rev 120 NKJV) "The mystery of the seven stars
which you saw in My right hand, and the seven
golden lampstands The seven stars are the angels
of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands
which you saw are the seven churches.
41The angels of the seven churches
- a???e???
 - Aggelos Angelos
 - Thayer Definition
 - 1) a messenger, envoy, one who is sent, an angel,
a messenger from God - I believe these were the preachers, or elders of
the churches. How else would John be able to
talk to them?
42A special blessing on those who hear or read this
book.
- (Rev 13 NKJV) Blessed is he who reads and those
who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep
those things which are written in it for the
time is near.
  43Why Revelation instead of Isaiah?
- The lessons in Isaiah tend to be somewhat
repetitive of things we have already studied. - We lose part of the feeling of the story since we
already studied the historical events. - Revelation is more relevant to our time.
 - I believe Gods wants us to be informed about
what we may see in our lifetime.
