Title: Pre-Krebs and Krebs Cycle

1
Pre-Krebs and Krebs Cycle
2

  • Take place in the mitochondria
  • 2 pyruvate molecules enter the mitochondria from
    the cytoplasm
  • 3 Functions
  • Produces NADH and FADH2
  • Produces ATP
  • Produces oxaloacetate

3
  • Pre-Krebs
  • 1. Pyruvate enters the mitochondria from the
    cytoplasm
  • 2. CO2 is removed from pyruvate and Acetyl CoA is
    formed
  • NAD is converted to NADH

4
  • Krebs Cycle (Citric Acid)
  • 3. Acetyl CoA attaches to oxaleacetate creating
    citrate
  • 4. Citrate breaks down into intermediates,
    releasing CO2
  • 4. NADH is produced
  • 5. ATP is formed
  • 6. FADH2 is produced

5
  • 7. Oxaloacetate is regenerated and continues in
    the Citric Acid Cycle.
