• Position as for the lateral skull
• Central ray directed perpendicular to bucky and
  centered at a point 2.5 cm above and 2.5 cm in
  front of the EAM
• Collimate the beam appropriately

SMV 1

• Facing the tube and slightly away from the
  vertical bucky, The neck is extended as far as
  possible to bring the vertex of the skull in
  contact with the bucky
• Median plane perpendicular Base line parallel
  to bucky
• Centre in midline at the level of EAMM,
  perpendicular to bucky

SMV 2

• The patients shoulders are raised on pillows and
  the neck hyper -extended to bring the vertex of
  the skull in contact with the table.
• Median plane perpendicular Base line parallel
  to bucky
• Centre in midline at the level of EAMM,
  perpendicular to bucky

Base of the skull (SubMento-Vertical) - SMV

• If sitting, facing the tube and slightly away
  from the vertical bucky. The neck is extended as
  far as possible to bring the vertex of the skull
  in contact with the bucky
• If lying down, the patients shoulders are raised
  on pillows and the neck hyper -extended to bring
  the vertex of the skull in contact with the
  table.
• Median plane perpendicular Base line parallel
  to bucky
• Centre in midline at the level of EAMM,
  perpendicular to bucky

SMV

• Heads of the mandibular condyles projected clear
  of the petrous portions of the temporal bones.
• The foraminae of the middle cranial fossa are
  seen symmetrically either side of the midline
• Sphenoid sinus in midline
• Symmetrical petrous pyramids.
