Summarizing the Millennium Goals
54
Goal 1 Eradicate Extreme Poverty Hunger

to 45 in 2000. Yet from 2001-2004, poverty has
declined by 20. Even on high economic growth
scenarios, Ecuador will unable to achieve the
targets set in the Millennium Declaration.

55
Goal 3 Promote Gender Equality and Empower
Women
  • Progress The main inequality is seen in the
level of education, boys generally are in school
longer. In order to reach this goal, gender
discrimination must be eliminated within the
family as well as within levels of pay in the
    labor market.

56
Goal 4 Reduce Child Mortality
  • Progress The Infant mortality rate in Ecuador in
2003 was 22.3 percentage points in comparison to
1990 when it was up to 43. Ecuador will most
    likely achieve this goal.

57
Goal 7 Ensure Environmental Sustainability
  • Progress Achieving environmental sustainability
is one of most difficult challenges facing
Ecuador as it attempts to develop economically.
The percentage of the population using solid
    fuels is on the increase.
