    (2.31B)
  • Linux RDBMS has 4.2 percent
  • Oracle has 69 of the Linux RDBMS market
  • Up 360

9
Migrations Project Considerations
  • Certified OS and Software versions
  • Pre-requisite Patching
  • Create and Upload Manifest
  • Upgrade Dot Release and Migrate
  • Upgrades Applications New functionality
  • Users need to test at least once for migration
    and upgrade

10
Migrations Project Considerations
  • Migrate
  • Users need to test migration
  • Future upgrade requires additional testing
  • Production Cutover
  • Downtime
  • Post Go-Live Support
  • Operating System Support
  • Training vs. Outsourcing

11
Project requirements
  • Timeline
  • Database migration to Linux
  • Applications migration to Linux
  • Resource requirements
  • Database Administrator (full time)
  • Testing Team (functional and technical resources)

12
Linux Platform Migration Utility
  • Provides a way to quickly move an existing Oracle
    Applications
  • Includes Technology Stack Upgrade to 11.5.10
  • Retains exact application patch level therefore
    no APPL_TOP/Database synchronization is necessary
  • Retains many customizations

13
Migrate Oracle Applications to Release 11i
  • High level steps
  • Apply Migration utility patch
  • Generate and upload manifest
  • Copy source files and directories to Linux
  • Install 11.5.10 Tech Stack
  • Configure applications on Linux
  • Documentation Metalink Note 238276.1

14
Migrate database to Linux
  • High level steps
  • Export source Release 11i database (any OS)
  • Prepare a target Release 11i database (Linux)
  • Import target Release 11i database (Linux)
  • Update imported Release 11i database (Linux)
  • Documentation Metalink Note 230627.1

15
TUSC working with Linux
  • Supported an Online E-Commerce site a 4 node 10g
    RAC cluster on RHEL 3.
  • Upgraded standalone / Windows / 8i to 9i RAC on
Linux RH Enterprise 3.0. (Performance improved
    quite a bit)
  • 9204/RAC database on Red Hat ES 2.0.
  • Upgrade from 8.1.7 on SCO to 9.2.x on Red hat ES
    2.0.
  • Conversion for ERP from 8.1.7/Win32 to 10g on Red
    Hat 3.0.
  • Moving a 3-node RHEL RAC to 6-node.

16
TUSC working with Linux
  • 2 articles on OTN on installing/configuring 10g
single instance and 10g RAC on every Linux
    version supported by Oracle.
  • 3 presentations on the RAC SIG website.
  • TUSC RAC class uses a two-node Linux cluster
using a single firewire shared drive for storage.
It runs both 9.2.0.4 and 10g RAC on the same
cluster without problems. Of course, it's not
meant to perform well, just to demonstrate
    functionality.
