• People were fearful that Communists were trying
  to take over America.
• In the Palmer Raids, private homes and businesses
  were raided and hundreds were deported

Sacco and Vanzetti

• In 1920, two Italian immigrants and radicals were
  accused of murdering two factory guards
• Witnesses said the the criminals looked Italian
• Sacco and Vanzetti were executed with no solid
  evidence

More Nativism

• By 1924 the KKK had 4.5 million members.
• The Quota System place the max. number of people
  that could immigrate from each country

Warren G. Harding as President

• Elected in 1920, Harding and his Ohio Gang were
  known for corruption and scandal
• He died suddenly in 1923

• Calvin Coolidge became president after Hardings
