2What are we testing for?
- Pavement twice per year (before after winter
driving season) - Smoothness
- Cracking/Raveling
- Longevity/Durability
- Cost/Benefit
- Noise monthly as appropriate for 1st year
(reassess frequency w/in the year) - Tire/Pavement with Onboard Sound Intensity
- Resident experience with Wayside/Pass-by
- Driver experience with in-vehicle meter
3What to watch in Washington
- Studded tires
- Ground temperatures for installation of open
graded rubberized asphalt - Freeze/thaw for trapped water in open graded
asphalt
- Tire pressures on air pockets for open graded
asphalt - Plugging/vacuuming
- Heavy traffic wear
- Changes to water run-off
