Dedicated Resources/Tasks
  • Consists of resources and equipment that is
    primarily tasked to accomplish duties under your
    supervision.

Assigned Deputies
  • The Jail Industries Program is assigned two
    deputies who manage two crews of 4 to 8 inmates
    each.

Transportation
  • Two 10 passenger Jail Industries vans are
    provided by the Department of Parks Recreation
    and the Department of Public Works. Jail
    Industries is only charged with the routine
    maintenance of the vehicle.

Equipment / Supplies
  • All landscaping, equipment and supplies needed to
    perform the Jail Industries duties are provided
    by the Parks Recreation Dept. and DPW,
    including a 12 foot landscaping trailer to
    transport the equipment.

Inter-Organizational Resources
  • Consists of non-dedicated organizational
    resources that are utilized to perform other
    duties and additional responsibilities.

Facility Upkeep
  • The Jail Industries crews are also used within
    the facility to maintain cleanliness and general
    upkeep of the facility. The facility capacity is
    approx. 600 inmates.

Inmate Meals
  • All inmate meals are prepared and served by the
    inmate population under the supervision of
    Aramark food services. The inmates also prepare
    and deliver meals for Meals on Wheels and Detox.

Inmate Laundry
  • Although the general population housing units
    have laundry facilities within their housing
    units, laundry services are provided by inmates
    for specialized housing units such as the mental
    health and disciplinary segregation units.
    Laundry services are also provided for the
    homeless shelters within the county.

Print Shop
  • The Jail Industries Program also provides labor
    for the Countys print shop, which has an
    operation within the detention facility. The
    inmates assist a county print shop employee in
    the preparation of non-sensitive printed
    material.

Commissary
  • Inmates are provided by Jail Industries to
    prepare and deliver commissary to Arlington
    Detention facility as well as the Alexandria Va.
    Detention facility.

Inmate Screening Process
  • The Jail Industries Program utilizes the
    detention facilitys case managers to perform the
    initial screening of potential Jail Industries
    inmates. Once screened by the case manager, the
    inmates are forwarded to the Jail Industries
    manager for approval.

Drug Screening
  • Random Drug Screens are performed by Detention
    facility Deputies to allow more time for the Jail
    Industries Deputies to work their crews.

Outsourcing/Tasks
  • Consists of outside resources that are brought
    into an organization to perform tasks as needed

Security/Management
  • The Detention facilitys new inmate phone system
    has been a great tool in the area of security as
    well as inmate management. It is used in the
    screening process of inmates as well as a key
    tool in monitoring inmate behavior.
