• Authorized by Agency
• Sworn Law Enforcement Officer
• Need to Fly Armed
• Completed FAA LEO Flying Armed Training Program

STATUS THAT DETERMINES NEED TO CARRY FIREARM ON
AIRCRAFT

• Protective Escort
• Hazardous Surveillance
• Prisoner Escort
• Federal Air Marshal
• Federal LEO required or authorized
• by agency wide policy to be armed during
  travel
• Law enforcement Officer on Official Travel
  Required to Report to Another Location Armed
  Prepared for Duty

CREDENTIALS FOR PROPER ID

• Clear, Full-Face Photograph
• Your Signature
• Officer Agency Seal or Agency Head Signature

PRISONER RESTRAINT

• Prisoners escorted by armed LEOs must be
  restrained from full use of hands.

PRISONER CONTROL

• The Prisoner Must Remain
• Under the Direct Control
• of a LEO at All Times While
• Being Transported by Commercial
• Aircraft

PRESSURIZED CONTAINERS

• No Person May Carry Tear Gas, Mace, OC Spray, or
  Similar Chemicals (self defense spray) In the
  Cabin of a Commercial Aircraft

FIREARM IN CHECKED BAGGAGE

• Weapon Unloaded
• Declare weapon when Bag is Checked
• Check-in a Hard-Sided, Locked Container (You
  Maintain Key or Combination)
• Firearms Tag Inside container

GROUND SECURITY COORDINATOR

• The Aircraft Operators Ground Security
  Coordinator is the Best Contact for the LEO
  Regarding Conflict Resolution

CREW TRAINING

• The Aircraft Crew has been trained to handle
  Crisis Situations.
• Let Them Do It!

FEDERAL AIR MARSHAL

• Specifically trained and equipped, civil aviation
  security specialists (Special Agents) assigned to
  selected flights/areas.
• Protection of Identity is Critical.
• Purpose is to take necessary action
• to prevent aircraft hijacking and
• loss of life.

PROPER LEO REACTION TO A HIJACKING

• If a FAM is onboard, dont get involved unless
  your assistance is requested.
• If no FAMs are on board, take necessary action to
  prevent loss of life or serious bodily injury.

IN-FLIGHT SECURITY COORDINATOR

• The Pilot-In-Command is the In-Flight Security
  Coordinator,
• and is the Final Authority
• On Board the Aircraft

PROPER LEO REACTION TO AN UNRULY PASSENGER

• Only Intervene When Asked by the Crew, or When
  Human Life is Clearly at Risk
• You May Discreetly Volunteer Your Assistance

IF DENIED BOARDING WITH A WEAPON

• Involve a Ground Security Coordinator
• Inform your Supervisor
• Agency will notify the Air Carrier and the FAA
