New Community Profile
  • 70 indicators are included covering a range of
    health outcomes (e.g. life expectancy, mortality,
    hospitalisation) and health determinants (e.g.
    smoking levels, breastfeeding, income,
    employment, crime, education).
  • Indicators lie within the following themes
  • Population demographics Mortality
  • Drugs, alcohol and smoking Hospitalisation and
    injury
  • Mental health and function Social work
  • Prosperity/Poverty Education
  • Crime Housing and transport
  • Child and maternal health

  • Health indicators are presented for the overall
    community but also for smaller areas within
    each CH(C)P
  • In Glasgow City, these smaller areas are
    neighbourhood localities
  • There are 55 neighbourhood areas (as defined
    for Housing Forums) within Glasgow City, ranging
    in population size from 1,400 to 19,500.

Some basic health facts for the area
  • A boy born today in South West Glasgow might live
    on average for 70 years .. nearly 4 years less
    than the Scottish average
  • 148 people died of drug related causes in the
    last 10 years.. the rate of drug deaths is
    double the Scottish average
  • Over 1,600 people a year are admitted overnight
    to hospital for conditions attributable to
    alcohol, 335 people died of alcohol related
    causes in the last 5 years (more than double the
    Scottish average)
  • Over 12,000 people (10 of the population) are
    being prescribed drugs for anxiety, depression or
    psychosis

  • There are 9,000 primary school children and over
    7,000 secondary school children
  • Children in workless households 90 above norm
  • Over 2200 young people Not in employment,
    Education or Training (NEET), 30 above the city
    average
  • Almost 6 in every 10 primary 1 school children
    have dental decay, higher than the Glasgow
    average
  • 1 in every 10 children in contact with Social
    Work

  • Child Protection Register 55 (2nd)
  • 29 of women smoke during pregnancy, 34 of the
    population
