Title: Re: Energy Saving with GATES Synchronous Belts.

1
Re Energy Saving with GATES Synchronous
Belts.      We understand that your company is
actively involved in reducing its electrical
energy costs and carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions.   Following you will find a short
presentation which outlines how significant
energy savings can be achieved by replacing flat
or Vee belt drives with synchronous belts.
This is most effective in pump, fan (A.H.U.s
production), and compressor applications. The
belts are available from our Gates appointed
distributor, E. Fox Engineers.   We would welcome
an opportunity to visit your facility and examine
a relevant application to demonstrate the savings
you could achieve.   Please see the worked
example in the following presentation of the cost
savings possible. I will phone you shortly
regarding the above, but in the meantime should
you have any queries about Gates products and
their energy saving qualities, please do not
hesitate to contact me. Stephen Tighe, Priory

POLY CHAIN The unique Power Transmission Drive.
  • Saves significant energy
  • Increases bearing life on both driver (motor)
and driven fans, pumps, and other applications.
  • No maintenance required fit, tension
correctly, and forget for its calculated life.
  • Operates in extreme conditions where lubrication
    is not possible.
  • Provides the highest power to size ratio of all
    power transmission drives.
  • Drives are made more compact through the use of
    Poly Chain
  • because of its size to power ratio.

Positive Drive Energy savings using synchronous
belts   Synchronous belts are recognised as
significantly more efficent than Vee belts or
flat-belts. Replacing a Vee belt drive with a
sychronous belt drive will increase efficiency
and give pay back after a period of 6 months or
less. A synchronous belt is a positive drive
with losses of less than 0.5

POLY CHAIN The unique Power Transmission Drive.
  • Consistent Performance
  • When fitted and tensioned properly the
performance of the Poly Chain will last for the
duration of the belts life - three years for 24
hours per day, or 25,000 hours - without ever
being re-tensioned, reducing maintenance time and
    costs..
  • A Vee Belt should be
  • Tensioned at fitting
  • Tensioned after one hour
  • Tensioned after one day
  • Tensioned after one week
  • Tensioned after one month
  • Tensioned after six months
  • Replaced after twelve months.
  • Should this best practice not be used energy
losses of up to 20 can be expected.
  • In applications such as fans, pumps and
compressors, further losses can occur where slip
    can effect
  • the expected flow of air or liquid.

Bearing losses Because of near zero slack,
synchronous belts create less axial and radial
loads on bearings, resulting in longer bearing
life and improved efficiency.   Load
sensitivity Synchronous belts are
less load sensetive whereas Vee belts are
highly load dependant.

An example of Poly Chain working under extreme
conditions. The Poly Chain replaced roller
chain which was wearing out within two
weeks. Conditions in this concrete plant made
lubrication impossible because the combination of
dust, water, and lubricant formed a grinding
paste.
The Poly Chain installed in November 2004 and is
still running in March 2005 without maintenance
or wear.
