  Egypts National Strategy Study (NSS) on the CDM
  and other policy documents provide CDM screening
  criteria regarding sustainable development
  indicators

  social, as well as environmental conditions are
  equally considered and carefully balanced,
  leading to living standards for future
  generations which are no worse off, if not
  better, than present ones

• Strengthening partnerships at the national level.
• Supporting bilateral and international
  partnerships in the environmental fields.
• Enforcing Law 4 of 1994 for the protection of the
  environment, and Law 102 of 1993 for Natural
  Protectorates and all other environmental
  legislation.
• Supporting institutional strengthening and
  capacity building for the Egyptian Environmental
  Affairs Agency and Environmental Management Units
  (EMUs) of the governorates.
• Supporting integrated Environmental Management
  Systems.
• Integrate the use of market-based instruments in
  the field of environmental protection.
• Transfer and adaptation of environmentally
  friendly technologies.

Underlying Principles

• The implementation of the environmental policies
  of the government of Egypt, is carried out with
  four main principles underlying environmental
  management and protection initiatives
• Strengthening the integrative capacity of central
  and local government.
• Strengthening of public - private partnerships.
• Partnerships with environmental non governmental
  organizations.
• The integration of gender issues in environmental
  policies and programs.

CDM Projects and Egypt SD Priorities

• The SD dimension should be seen as a main driver
  for developing country interested in
  participating in the CDM.
• The application of SD indicators to CDM project
  evaluation is a tool for checking how the CDM
  potentiality can be used to create synergies with
  host country development objectives.
• The first step of an effort to assess the SD
  impacts of CDM projects is for the host country
  to define and select specific aspects of and
  goals related to Sustainable Development that are
  considered to be important.
• Egypt Strategy for CDM stipulates that the CDM
  project should, basically, satisfy, collectively
  or solely, criteria categorized in the next table
  for achieving SD.
