Joe Rosenthal Biography

• Born October 9, 1911 in Washington
• Joined the San Francisco Examiner as a staff
  photographer
• Rejected as military photographer on the outbreak
  of World War II
• Sent to cover the Pacific War by the Associated
  Press in March 1944
• Took most famous portrait of World War II on
  February 23, 1945 Raising flag at Iwo Jima
• After war, chief photographer and manager of
  Times Wide World Photos later worked for the San
  Francisco Chronicle
• Died on August 20, 2006

On Feb. 23, 1945, Associated Press photographer
Joe Rosenthal captured the Pulitzer Prize-winning
picture of Marines raising the flag on Mount
Suribachi, Iwo Jima. He recalled, "I could only
hope that it turned out the way that I looked at
it through the finder." During World War II,
Rosenthal also covered the invasions of New
Guinea and Guam. Joe Rosenthal died on August 20,
2006 at the age of 94.

Picasa 3 Editing, selecting photos

• Set up Google Account google.com
• Go to http//picasa.google.com/
• Download Picasa 3
• Upload photographs
• Under File menu, select New Album
• Type in Date/name of assignment
• Select photos, drag to the album you created
• Edit photos, put the final photo selection first
  in album
• Select the final photo, and write cutline where
  it says Write a caption!
• NOTE Add full name to the end of the caption
