  • 1803 Louisiana Purchase Americas fierce
    determination to keep the port of New Orleans
    open and Frances costly war against Britain.
  • Pages 319-320 Purchase has been made, learning
    about the territory became more important, Lewis
    Clark Expedition. Growth of fur trade, accurate
    maps (open the west to settlers), and clash of
    cultures.

    interference w/ American shipping, and British
    support of Native-American resistance.

  • 1830 Indian Removal Act Pres. Jackson believed
    that the govt had the right to regulate where
    Native Am could live, pressure from settlers,
    discovery of gold in Georgia.

    freedom, raised an issue of Americas mission
    Manifest Destiny. Set the stage for ethnic
    cleansing (Trail of Tears).

  • 1844 Industrial Revolution (1800-1844) great
    economic changes brought new machines and
    factories, changed US society, encouraged the
    expansion of slavery.
  • Pages 341-359 New inventions improved
    transportation and communication, improved
    farming, cotton gin and boom caused slavery to
    spread. Slavery created tensions, later led to
    the Civil War.

    Americans settled/moved into Mexican territory,

    with outlawing slavery. Fight over Texas!

    (Mexican Cession), rich new culture. From Sea to
    Shining Sea, transcontinental railroad was
    built.
