Problem Set 1
3
Problem 1
  1. A discrete capacitor with 10 nH self inductance
has a measured capacitance of 10.0 pF at 2 MHz.
What is the true capacitance at 450 MHz, assuming
    the lossless case?

4
Problem 2
  • At 100 MHz an inductor of 100 nH true inductance
has an effective RF series loss resistance of 1
    W.
  • What is the Q of the series combination?
  • If 2 pF parallel capacitance is added to the
series R-L combination, what is the new effective
    inductance at 100 MHz?
  • What is the new Q of the three-element
    series-parallel circuit at 100 MHz?

5
Problem 3
  • Find the frequency where the two circuits shown
have equivalent terminal impedances. Use PSpice
or MATLAB to plot the impedance response vs.
frequency, and measure the frequency range
through which the complex input impedances are
    nearly equal ( 5).
  • Hint Use

6
Problem 4
  • Convert the series RLC circuit below to its
closest two-element (one resistor and one
reactive component) parallel equivalents at a
single frequencies of 1 MHz and 2 GHz.
Components may be neglected when their reactances
are less than 1 of the reactive element.
