5
Non-flowering Plant
  • Plants that do not produce flowers for
    reproduction

6
Non-vascular plants
  • Without vascular tissues(special tissues for
    transport)
  • Often short and small(with some exceptions living
    in ocean)
  • Often live in water or wet places

7
Fungi
  • No chlorophyll
  • Simple plant body composed of thread-like
hyphae(with differentiation into root, stem and
    leaf)
  • Spores are commonly used for reproduction

8
Algae
  • Simple plant body without root, stem and
leaf(but may have many forms e.g. unicellular,
    sheet-like, filaments, branched etc.)
  • Plant body with chlorophyll, but may show
different colors e.g.green, brown, red etc.(thus,
there are green algae, brown algae, red algae
    etc.)
  • Aquatic(I.e.live in water)

9
Bryophyte
  • Simple green plants with no true roots(may have
stems and leaves as in moss.)
  • Live in wet places

10
Vascular plants
  • Have vascular tissues(special tissues for
transport)and thus have roots, stems and leaves
  • Can grow to a tall and large plant
  • Can live on dry land(of course still defend on
    soil water)

11
Pteridophyte
  • Vascular plants without seeds
  • Spores are produced in sporangia associated with
    green leaves

12
Gymnosperm
  • Cones(not flowers)as reproductive
    structures(where spores are produced)
  • Seeds are naked---not covered within fruit
  • Needle-shaped leaves are common

13
Flowering plants
  • Flowers as reproductive structures(where spores
    are produces)
  • Seeds are covered-enclosed within fruit
  • Two main groups Monocotyledons and Dicotyledons

14
Monocotyledonous Plant
  • Embryo with one cotyledon
  • Leaves have parallel veins
  • Fibrous root system

15
Dicotyledonous Plant
  • Embryo with two cotyledons
  • Leaves have net veins
  • Tap root system
