Drama
  • A composition in prose or verse presenting in
    dialogue or pantomime a story involving conflict
    or contrast of character, esp. one intended to be
    acted on the stage a play.
  • We have read three genres of literature this
    semester short story, poetry, and drama.

Act and Scene
  • Each is one of the main divisions of a play or
    opera. Scenes are part of acts, and acts are
    part of drama.
  • Macbeth has 5 acts, and a varying number of
    scenes within each act. The Glass Menagerie has
    only one act, and multiple scenes.

Monologue
  • A part of a drama in which a single actor speaks
    alone. This may or may not be able to be heard
    by other characters in the drama.

Stage Directions
  • An instruction written into the script of a play,
    indicating stage actions, movements of
    performers, or production requirements. These
    are instructions for the individuals involved in
    creating a stage play, and not meant to be read
    aloud to the audience.
