Module I Three Types of StressObjectives
  • In this module the learner will be introduced to
    the three types of stress, eustress, neustress,
    and distress. At the end of this module
  • The learners will identify occurrences in their
    lives where these types of stresses occurred in
    the past during group discussion.
  • Given a description of the three types of stress,
    learners will define the three types of stress on
    a quiz with 100 accuracy, or 3/3.

  • What is stress?
  • Inability to cope with a perceived (real or
    imagined) threat to ones mental, physical,
    emotional, and spiritual well being, which
    results in a series of physiological responses
    and adaptations (Seaward, 2004, p. 4).
  • The key is the word perceived.

  • Eustress
  • Good stress, occurs when someone is in a
    situation that they find motivating, inspiring,
    and enjoyable.
  • Examples Getting married, falling in love,
    buying a house

  • An occurrence that has no direct effect on the
    person, so it is seen as neither good nor bad.
  • Example A natural disaster in another country.

  • Bad stress. Can be long term or short term.
  • Example Being in an abusive marriage.
