The creative process
  • Leading the process

the relationship
  • Creativity, at its most basic level, is the
    process of
  • generating many ideas.
  • Innovation is the process of selecting/combining,
    refining,
  • and turning the best creative idea(s) into
    reality.
  • Both are EQUALLY important and creative
    leadership creates the synergy.

Reframing Three in the morning
A man who kept monkeys said to them, You get
three acorns in the morning and four in the
evening. This made them all very angry. So he
said, How about four in the morning and three in
the evening? ---- And the monkeys were happy.

HOW TO MANAGE CHANGING A SYSTEM?
It's hard to start,so 1st you need to keep up
the flow
12
All ideas are recognized and acknowledged . . . a
two- way flow of communication is essential. The
system is the communication.
Ideas have a natural need for POWER
Ideas must have a place to go and once they get
there, people should know if they'll be used,
discussed further or rejected, and why.

15
Help people bring their ideas to life.
Replace "Our customers would never accept that!"
with "Say more about how it would help our
customers."
16
Actively listen . . . always confirm your
understanding of a person's idea do you mean
....?
This will ensure understanding by listener and
speaker alike, and promotes piggybacking.
17
  • Dont be ridiculous
  • Weve already tried that.
  • It will cost too much.
  • Were not responsible ..
  • Thats too big a change.
  • We dont have the time.
  • That makes ... Redundant or obsolete.
  • Not our problem.
  • Weve never tried that before.
  • Lets be realistic.
  • Why change? Things are going well.
  • Youre years ahead of your time.
  • Its not in the budget.
  • If its such a good idea, why hasnt it been
    done before?
  • Management will never fall for that.
  • The supplier will never do that.
  • The customer will not accept it.
  • Since when are YOU the expert ?!
  • Its not in line with policy.

Killer phrases stop ideas dead in their tracks.

New ideas
Newas and change can be very THREATENING for the
current paradigm of an organisation and new
ideas are very VULNERABLE. So they need care,
protection and substance.
21
Creative leadership follows the people
There is respect for different gifts . . . the
different ways that people express their
intelligence and talents can be seen as an asset,
not as a liability to be overcome.
The outside world is a place to be explored,
not feared . . . Playfulness is encouraged .
. . humor is encouraged as a way to
keep perspective on issues and take a fresh
approach. Respect yourself and others . . .
acknowledge your own skills and experience,
AND your limitations.
