Title: What Jesus Preached About Salvation

1
What Jesus Preached About Salvation
  • Isnt it amazing how many idea people have today
on what a person is to do to have salvation?
Lets look at a few of them.
  • Accept Jesus as your personal Savior invite Him
into your heart and say the sinners prayer-
  • Scripture?

2
Other Common Idea On Salvation
  • Man can do nothing- it is all the work of God-
    Grace only-
  • Scripture please?
  • Predestination- God determined before time who
would be saved and who would be lost- mans has
    no choice in the matter-
  • Scripture please?
  • Faith only-
  • Scripture please?

3
Faith Only
  • faith only is a most wholesome doctrine and
very full of comfort Methodist Discipline, 1981
    edition, pg. 72.
  • What the Bible says- James 224- you see
then how that by works a man is justified and not
    by faith only.
  • What Jesus taught- Mark 1616- He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved, he that
    believeth not shall be damned.

4
What Jesus Taught
  • for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall
die in your sins John 824
  • I tell ye nay, but except ye repent ye shall all
likewise perish.- Luke 133,5. Jesus stated this
    exact statement twice- emphasizing it.
  • whosoever therefore shall confess me before men,
him shall I also confess before My Father which
is in heaven Mk. 1032 Lk. 128.
  • he that heareth these sayings of Mine and doeth
them shall be a wise manMatt. 724

5
Salvation Jesus
  • Jesus taught that in order for a person to be
    saved they have to
  • 1.Hear--- 2.Believe--- 3.Repent--
    4.Confess-- 5.Be baptized.
  • Jesus also taught- if ye love Me, keep My
    commandments- John 1415, 23
  • Can we all agree that the One who died on the
cross for our sins, knew what He wanted mankind
to know regarding salvation and that He informed
    us of it?

6
Jesus Never Said Or Taught
  • Salvation is wholly a work of grace
  • Man does not have to do anything
  • Faith ONLY
  • Grace ONLY
  • Confession ONLY
  • Repentance ONLY
  • Baptism ONLY
  • Hearing ONLY

7
Did Jesus Teach The Truth?
  • Jesus was and is the Master teacher.
  • It was His blood that was shed for remission of
    our sins.
  • Who would know more than He about what a person
should do to obtain eternal life?
  • Are we listening to what Jesus said or are we
picking out our favorite passages and ignoring
    the rest?

8
Jesus Taught
  • A straight gate and a narrow way which leads to
life and few there be that find it.- Matt. 714
  • I say unto thee that thou art Peter and upon
this rock, I will build My church and the gates
of Hades will not prevail against it and I will
give unto thee the keys of the kingdom- Matt.
    1618,19

9
Binding And Loosing Authority
  • Jesus recognized and told of the authority of the
Apostles teaching (Matt. 1619- whatsoever thou
shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven,
whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be
    loosed in heaven).
  • They would have the Comforter come and guide them
(Jn. 1426 1526)- He shall teach you all
things and bring to remembrance all things I have
said unto you. Remember what Jesus said about
salvation? The apostles were authorized to teach
the same thing and they did.

10
Jesus Taught One Church
  • Yes and it is His.
  • How many churches were there in the first
    century?
  • Did Jesus do what He came to do?
  • How many churches are there today?
  • Where did they all come from?
  • Did Jesus teach many churches?
  • Did Jesus authorize many answers to what one must
    do to obtain salvation?

11
The Origin Of The Church That Christ Built
  • Jesus said He would build His church- Mt. 1618.
Based on fact that He is the foundation- 1 Cor.
311- other foundation can no man lay
  • The Scriptures teach He only built one- Eph. 44-
there is one body He is the head of the body,
the church- Col. 118 Eph. 122,23.
  • This church was established on the day of
Pentecost, in Jerusalem, about the year 33 AD-
    Acts 2.

12
Over 400 Christian Denominations
  • Handbook of Denomination, 9th edition- lists over
400 man-made denominations in the world as of
    now.
  • Over 60 varieties of Baptist- over 20 varieties
of Methodist- over 50 Charismatic groups. Where
did all the churches come from?
  • What a confusing picture of unity that Christ
prayed for in John 1721- that they all might be
one, as Thou art in Me and I in Thee that they
all might be one in Us, that the world might
believe that Thou hast sent Me.

13
The First Departure Came From Within The Lords
Church
  • Galatians 16,7- I marvel that ye are so soon
removed from Him who called you unto another
gospel, which is not another, but there be some
who would trouble you and will pervert the
    gospel.
  • Acts 2029,30- I know this that after my
departure shall grievous wolves enter in among
you not sparing the flock and that from among
your own selves shall men arise, speaking
perverse things to draw away disciples after
    them.

14
The First Departure Came From Within The Lords
Church
  • Revelation 2,3- Ephesus- left first love
    Pergamos-Nicolaitan doctrine Thyatira-
    compromised with erroneous teaching Sardis-
    works not perfect Laodicea-lukewarm, miserable,
poor, blind and naked before God spiritually.
  • Col. 28- beware lest any man spoil you through
philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition
of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not
    after Christ.

15

Open Examination Is Good
  • Ps. 262- examine me O Lord and prove me
  • 2 Cor. 135- examine yourselves, whether ye be
    in the faith
  • 1 Thess. 521- prove all things, hold fast to
    that which is good.
  • No attempt to bash or make fun, just look at the
facts of history regarding denominations of men.
Do you want to be a member of Christs church or
the denominations of men? It Does Make A
    Difference!

Protestant Reformation. Right idea to try to
right wrongs, but did not go back to the pattern
of the Bible. He was despised by the Catholic

    earth before judgment.

    Centered around social (eating, concerts,
secular activities, church is one big party
    experience) seek the unchurched stress
non-importance of the church- have head with no
    body.
